Locket

Earlier this week our beloved pet Locket. She had been with us from the very beginning. Words can't even begin to say the sadness that I have felt since her passing. She was the first that we introduced our children to. She was the one who comforted me while my husband was away with the Army. She was loving and loyal as all good dogs should be. I still look for her as I drive up in my car or look out my kitchen window. I still listen for her to make her rounds at night. Heaven knows she scared me senseless more than once walking around the house in the middle of the night. It did make me feel safer though, once I remembered it was her. No killer rabbits were getting into our house on her watch. I really miss her voice. So, eat a carrot and remember the bestest, sweetest wolf ever. Man, she loved carrots.

My Chickens all Grown Up

I haven't shown off my pretty chickens in a while and had some requests from some of our egg customers to see the chickens that they came from. So here is a sampling of them all grown up. The first one is our Easter Egger hen. She lays light blue eggs! The last one is our Easter Egger rooster. He's pretty awesome. Wynnie thinks we should name him Diego, but there's some resistance from her siblings. I think it suits him. He kinda has that Latin lover vibe going for him.

History Lesson Gone Wrong

Tuckerby and Danner are studying British history. Tuck has learned about King Henry all the way up to Queen Elizabeth, who we are studying now. In order to do this we have had to discuss monarchies and how when you have fanatical monarchs, such as Queen Mary, you can lose religious freedom. A few days ago Tuck overheard me talking to a good friend about how my brother and his family have recently moved to England. (Hi Jason and Amy!) This is not new news to him, but apparently this is the first time he made the connection between his awesome textbook (Our Island Story by H. E. Marshall, go by it, the best ever) and the England that Uncle Jason and Aunt Amy moved to. He seemed incredulous that they would choose to move there. "But Mom," he said, "didn't anyone tell them they aren't free?"

Esme Elyn

These are just random shots of Esme that I took while taking pictures of the other kids. I actually intended to re-do her photo shoot. You know, like, when I had actually combed her hair, and she actually had pants on. But she broke my camera and this is all I have. I think that these actually show off her personality much more though.

Tuck's Photo Shoot

Here's Tuckerby's pictures from our little photo shoot. He really enjoyed doing this. Unfortunately, we cut all that beautiful hair off less than a week later.
